Therapy for Parents of Children with Medical Needs
We’ve all heard it before: I don’t care if it’s a boy or a girl as long as they’re healthy…
We may have even said it ourselves. You never expected to be going through this with your little one.
You spend so much time preparing for this new little person. What will they be like? Who will they look like? What will the nursery look like? No one prepares you for the possibility that your little one may not always be healthy.
Did you know…
Approximately 27% of children in the United States have a chronic medical condition?
Approximately 13% of infants require a NICU admission for complex medical needs?
Parents of children with medical complexities are up to 5 times more likely to experience mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, and PTSD? Many report not knowing where to turn for support.
If this sounds like you, I would love to support you along this journey.
The parents I work with often come to therapy dealing with:
NICU admission | unexpected diagnosis | birth trauma| parenting challenges | complex medical needs| PTSD |
hospital admissions | depression | grief | anxiety | loneliness | relationship challenges
In therapy, we may work on…
processing trauma, stress, and anxiety impacting your life
developing coping strategies
developing parenting strategies unique to you and your child
reclaiming and maintaining your personal identity
nurturing your relationships
Frequently Asked Questions
How much are sessions and do you accept insurance?
My out of pocket rate is $135.If you’re looking to utilize insurance, I accept Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Optum, and UMR.
If you’re interested, reach out and I’ll help you figure out how much your copay will be each session.
How long will I need therapy?
The length of therapy varies person to person depending on personal goals, issues faced leading to therapy, and many other personal factors.I often recommend clients begin with weekly sessions before transitioning to bi-weekly when it feels appropriate, monthly, and then as needed.
Does virtual therapy work?
Yes! Virtual therapy can be just as effective as in person therapy. For our busy lifestyles, it may even be the preferred option for many. Virtual therapy allows many to schedule appointments in the midst of their busy schedule, not need to add in drive time, and even attend sessions in the comfort of their own home!
How can I prepare for my first session?
Although I first want to say there’s nothing you need to do to prepare, I understand the temptation to want to feel the most prepared. Here are a few tips that can help:-Write down any topics or questions you really want to discuss so you won’t forget.
-Make sure you have a good internet connection, plug in your device if you need, and get comfy. You may even want to grab a cozy drink and a blanket!
-Be honest, open, and remember that I am here to support you. Not to judge.
